Valley Players’ “The Lover” is entertaining, amusing and deep

In the News, The Lover at Bay Area Stage Theater
The Daily Republic Review, Tony Wade, September 8, 2017 VALLEJO — I’m always excited when a new theater company springs forth on the local scene. I’ve had the good fortune to see a few, including On the Fringe, The Left Hand Theatre Co. and once fledgling, now veteran Bay Area Stage. Valley Players is a brand spankin’ new company that has as its mission “empowering women over 40 through the theater arts.” What impressed me the most about Valley Players’ production of “The Lover,” presented at Bay Area Stage’s Broadway Theatre in Vallejo, was how polished and well-presented the production was. They had a three-day run in Napa this year, but it came across more like they had performed it for at least three months. Kudos to director Debbie Baumann.…

The Lover by Harold Pinter

The Lover by Harold Pinter

The Lover at Bay Area Stage Theater
Don’t miss the show the Napa Register called “superbly ironic” and “elegantly smooth”! Valley Players is pleased to announce that they will be reprising their production of Harold Pinter’s The Lover for six performances on September 1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th at 8pm and September 3rd, 10th & 17th at 3pm at Bay Area Stage Broadway Theater in Vallejo. The Lover is a quirky, tense, intriguing play by Harold Pinter that examines the private intricacies of modern marriage. To all outward appearances, Sarah and Richard are a respectable, conventional suburban couple. Behind closed doors, however, the couple enjoys a surprising and intriguing arrangement… Like any of Pinter’s works, this one-act contains the laughs, tears, and tensions that arise from the social intricacies of modern life. Directed by Debbie…

The Lover at Bay Area Stage Theater
“Superbly ironic” and “elegantly smooth.” —Sasha Paulsen, Napa Valley Register "...excellent play, don't miss it... I can assure you, it is a total enjoyment!! " —Maricela Soria "What a fantastic play I saw last night! THE LOVER is a mind-bending expose on how couples can play naughty little games – smokin' hot! Superb acting by the two lead players. It really makes you wonder who is cheating on who as they mess with each other and what a tangle it is! Who's fantasy is who's? The stage is grand with a swanky set up – beautifully directed and I can't stop thinking about it! Well done Valley Players!" —Cata Parkhurst "... loved it, loved it! The acting was sublime, the directing and staging superb. We felt like we were in…

‘Anton in Show Business’: Funny, tragic and thought-provoking

Anton in Show Business, In the News
Napa Valley Register Review, Dan Monez, May 18, 2017 An estimated 80 percent of the roles in American theater are men. Even more astounding is that of the 20 percent of roles that are female, 95 percent of those are women under 40. There lies the impetus for the formation of the Napa Valley’s newest theater company, Valley Players and their recent production, “Anton in Show Business.” Formed by several Dreamweavers alumni, three of whom are in this cast, (June Alane Reif, Debbie Baumann, and Patt Quinn), Valley Players’ mission is to produce quality live theater featuring significant roles for women over 40. The president of the company, Reif, said, “We are not excluding men or younger women but want to select plays that can feature women our age.” It…
